A Long Road to Wonder About Time
April 14, 1987

I sit and think about everything
And hold conversations within my mind
Will I make it to see the rain again?
Or will my madness drive me blind?

Am I really just an alibi
for a larger ring of crime?
What is the life I am given to lead
and is it just to pass the time?

I ponder over roads I've reached and trodden
along the uphill climb
Was there a turn that I failed to make?
Will I make it there on time?

Time, time, time, time
Can be my closest friend
or can take me to my end
On time I must depend

I see the ruins along the way
And see some standing among crumbling rust
On the road I'll spend my life
Until I reach a road to trust

The empty way takes twists and turns
and sometimes stays in straightened lines
Just like every life I lead
Strays and weaves nearly all the time

Time, time, time, time
Can be my closest friend
or can take me to my end
On time I must depend

And in the clinging dusk
Where all is old and fades to dust
The future hopes that I defend
Most surely on the will depend

Good-bye to the lonesome world
The roads, the turns and other goals
As every mountain that I climb
Will surely die away....in time
