GETTING FURTHER BEHIND
May 30, 2013
This is a song that I wrote about the falseness of a relationship gone sour, before the break-up is public, where you are still trying to put on the airs of compatibility. The romantic sunsets go so slowly compared to how when you were newly in love and you could never seem to have enough time together. One of my goals is to have someone set this to music...
Could you see us on the porchswing
or a thousand miles apart
Setting up a tea set, tasty treats upon the cart
sitting pretty, sitting cozy
Life is hard and never rosy
But you played the martyr card
and got further behind
Twisted from the first intent
Excelling at the acting part
another television night, dinner on the cart
Sitting lonely, sitting only
to let the night pass without feeling
Getting further behind
Doesn't it go slowly
this falsely led life of ours
Doesn't the sun take too long to fade
Why won't the daylight come ande let this night
go into the record books
Do you really have to ask why?
Time marches slowly on
time marches slowly on
time..it marches....on
You were brilliant tonight
When we met the neighbors at the supermart
another trophy for your cart
Sitting lovely, sitting solely
To prove the unprovable wholly
Getting further behind
Time marches slowly on
time marches slowly on
time...it marches....on
Doesn't it go slowly
this falsely led life of ours
Doesn't the sun take too long to fade
Why won't the daylight come and let this night
Fade gently into the recordbooks
Do you really have to ask why
do you really have to ask why
do you really have to ask?
