LIVING METAPHOR
November 2, 2004
Originally written November 2, 2004, this poem was written after studying The Purpose Filled Life by Pastor Rick Warren. I think we are okay with being Christians when comfort is present in our lives, but it is much more difficult when we realize how little we control and how we HAVE to let go and let God.
"You are not your own, for you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." -1 Corinthians 6:19-20
So you think you're in control today
You tame your tongue and pray for what to say
You grab your life as if there were something to hold
in a futile attempt to stave off the bitter cold
But what if God make you a living metaphor
And in doing so, seemed to close off every door
Would you still proclaim his love?
Could you still focus on things beyond and above?
So you think you hold the wheel today
and steer away from every sharp turn and cliff
When will you learn that you are not your own?
That a precious price was paid upon your soul
But what if God made you a living metaphor
and in doing so seemed to close off every door
Would you still love Him through all the pain?
and heed His call and bear the strain?
